How much regard do you give old buildings and objects now abandoned, unoccupied, rusting, crumbling or overgrown?

Over the decades on the East Coast of New Zealand, opportunities for work changed, schools closed because of population shift, weather events and economics affected land and transport use, and earthquakes made buildings untenable.

I have become fascinated by the stories that lie in the remains of old structures, rusted implements, eroded wharves and disused railway tracks;  evidence of the work of past generations. This portfolio honours them and is intended to add to the records of our East Coast history.

Let me inspire you to explore old structures and objects to find for yourself the colours, patterns and art forms that evolve as materials age, originating from early clever engineering designs and construction. These have fascinated me enough to record them in photographs.
